OSLO, Norway — The Norwegian Ministry of Energy has expanded acreage available in the Barents Sea under the current APA license round by 34 blocks.

The expanded area, totaling just under 9,000 sq km, is on the Finnmark Platform and is said to have good seismic data coverage.

According to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD), there is a high density of available 3D and 2D data over areas west of the Loppa High and around the North Cape Basin.

This includes datasets either processed or reprocessed during 2020/2021, with both time and depth data as well as angle/offset stacks.

On the Finnmark Platform, the expanded area features several promising plays that can be mapped for further maturing of prospects, the NOD added.

Although the Billefjorden Group and Røye Formation are among proven plays, neither is considered well explored.
