PARIS, France— TotalEnergies has secured two licenses in the Danish North Sea for potential CO2 storage projects. They cover a 2,118-sq-km area 250 km from Denmark’s west coast.
The acreage includes the company’s producing Harald gas fields, currently under evaluation for CO2 storage within the framework of the Bifrost project, and a saline aquifer that could increase CO2 storage volumes.
TotalEnergies will operate both CO2 storage licenses with an 80% interest, in partnership with state-owned Nordsøfonden (20%).
Planned assessment/appraisal work will target a development that could transport and permanently store more than 5 MMt CO2 per year through repurposing existing infrastructure in the Danish North Sea and constructing new facilities.
