FREDERICIA, Denmark — Ørsted has signed an agreement with Equinor for the latter to supply Norwegian gas to Denmark via the Baltic Pipe system from January 1, 2023 through April 1, 2024.
Total volume exported will be about 8 TWh, equivalent to a quarter of Denmark’s expected gas consumption over this period.
The completion of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline has enabled Ørsted to buy gas from the Norwegian gas fields, as the gas pipeline connects the Norwegian gas pipe system to Denmark.
Søren Thygesen Blad, head of Gas Portfolio Management with Ørsted, said the arrangement with Equinor would ensure a stable supply of Norwegian gas to Denmark during the period when the redeveloped Tyra Field in the Danish North Sea remains suspended in preparation for a restart.
With this agreement, and production from Ineos’ South Arne Field, Ørsted expects to have more than enough gas to meet demand from its customers for the next two winters, allowing it to stock up its Danish gas storage facilities over the summer.
