HOOFDDORP, The Netherlands—Petrodec has started decommissioning of Perenco UK’s Amethyst A2D platform at the Amethyst gas field in the UK southern North Sea.
This is the first time Petrodec has awarded operator status by the UK’s North Sea Transition Authority.
Amethyst A2D was built by UiE Scotland in Glasgow and installed in 1989 by Amethyst’s original operator bp.
Operations are in progress to ensure the facilities are hydrocarbon-free while the wells are undergoing plugging and abandonment.
On completion of these preparations, the topside will be skidded off the topside off the jacket, followed by sea fastening and a rig move for final dismantling in Vlissingen harbor in the Netherlands.
Petrodec is using its modified jackup ERDA for the program, as opposed to the traditional approach involving a drilling rig and heavy-lift vessel.
Decommissioning of Amethyst B1D was completed last December.
