TAQA books Allseas to remove four giant North Sea platforms

TAQA UK has contracted Allseas to remove structures from four large platforms in the UK northern North Sea, with the work due to start after 2025.

DELFT, the Netherlands  TAQA UK has contracted Allseas to remove structures from four large platforms in the UK northern North Sea, with the work due to start after 2025.

Aberdeen-based TAQA manages the UK North Sea exploration and production portfolio for Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. (TAQA).

Allseas’ engineering, preparation, removal and disposal contract covers the Eider Alpha, Tern Alpha, North Cormorant and Cormorant Alpha platforms. These are relatively close together in water depths of 150 m to 167 m, about 100 km northeast of the Shetland Islands.

The combined weight of the topsides and jackets to be removedabout 114,000 metric tonsmakes this the largest single UK offshore decommissioning award in terms of scope to date, Allseas’ added.

The heavy-lift vessel Pioneering Spirit will remove all four platform topsides and three steel supporting jackets as single units, transporting them to an onshore yard for dismantling, with a target of reusing or recycling 95% or more of the materials.
