PORTLETHEN, UK – KCA Deutag will perform energy optimization work for Equinor on two CAT J jackup drilling rigs operating in the Norwegian North Sea, under a $12-million contract.
The company’s new business unit Kenera will manage the 12-month program, which involves engineering and installation of various carbon-reduction technologies. It will include modifications to the rigs’ main engines and pumps and various software upgrades.
Installation of selective catalytic reduction technology should eliminate up to 85-95% of the NOx emissions, KCA Deutag, while auxiliary equipment modifications will ensure that only required fluids are delivered to pumps on the rigs, cutting energy consumption.
The software upgrades will be designed to integrate drilling control and power management systems to provide improved energy control, drilling optimization and monitoring of cost parameters.
