OGA reviewing repercussions of UK offshore disagreement

LONDON – Britain’s Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) is investigating a possible failure to maximize economic recovery of UK offshore resources arising from a commercial disagreement.
It will involve compiling and assessing further information to enable the authority to reach a decision; offering the parties concerned the opportunity to provide written representations; and deciding how the case should be resolved.
The OGA outlined its regulatory approach to licensees and infrastructure owners in June 2019 in a letter that stated: “Despite good progress we still see too many issues taking too long to resolve or ending up in deadlock between disputing parties, threatening MER UK.”
The MER Strategy has been succeeded by the current OGA Strategy, which promotes industry collaboration as key to maximizing the UK’s economic recovery and assisting the Secretary of State to meet net zero targets.
