ADNOC is deploying the RoboWell autonomous well control system at the offshore NASR Field, 130 km northwest of Abu Dhabi.
The service, delivered in partnership with local company AIQ, uses cloud-based AI algorithms to autonomously operate wells that self-adjust as conditions change.
This is designed to improve efficiency and safe operation of the wells, at the same time reducing the need for personnel to travel offshore for physical interventions, ADNOC stated.
According to ADNOC, NASR is a “fully digital” offshore field equipped with multiple technologies designed to maximize production and minimize emissions. RoboWell is in use initially at 10 wells across the field, with plans to extend the service this year to more than 300 wells throughout the company’s offshore and onshore operations.
AIQ’s CEO Dr. Chris Cooper said RoboWell has already delivered up to 30% improvement in gas-lift consumption and up to a 5% increase in operating efficiency.
AIQ developed the service with ADNOC’s Thamama Excellence Center, a hub that applies Big Data, digitalization and smart analytics to access hydrocarbons and resources as well as improve yield from producing reservoirs.
RoboWell was first deployed last year at ADNOC’s “smart” NEB onshore field.
