PERTH, Australia—Woodside Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) concerning studies for a potential carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chain between Japan and Australia.
KEPCO would assess capture of CO2 emitted from its thermal power plants and subsequent transportation to Australia, where Woodside is progressing various CCS projects offshore and onshore.
Woodside will evaluate potential injection and storage of CO2 delivered from Japan and the potential production of synthetic methane (e-methane).
The MoU studies will include an evaluation of storage opportunities in some of Australia’s offshore basins.
