HONG KONG — CNOOC will accept applications for the current Bidding Blocks Offshore China of 2023 round until Jan. 31, 2024.

Eight offshore blocks are available covering a total area of 18,464 sq km:

  • One is in the Donghai Basin (4,000 sq km);
  • Five more are in the Pearl River Mouth Basin (total acreage 12,793 sq km);
  • Another is in Beibu Bay Basin (1,077 sq km); and
  • The final block in the Qiongdongnan Basin (594 sq km).

Late last year, CNOOC said it would innovate cooperation modes with foreign enterprises and expand the scope of its partners.

For deepwater areas and deep subsurface formation, the company is open to flexible and preferential business arrangements in terms of the exploration period, relinquishment, signature fee, and participating interest, as it seeks to attract investment from foreign enterprises in offshore oil and gas exploration and development in China.
