Providence receives provisional extension for license offshore western Ireland

Ireland’s Minister of State for the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment has authorized a second phase of Providence Resources’ frontier exploration license 2/14.

LONDON – Ireland’s Minister of State for the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment has authorized a second phase of Providence Resources’ frontier exploration license (FEL) 2/14, 220 km (137 mi) off the country’s southwest coast.
The minister’s approval remains subject to completion of the agreed work program which includes drilling of the 53/6-A exploration well on the Druid prospect and the subsequent integration of the well data into a comprehensive assessment of the license’s petroleum potential.
Last November, Providence contracted thedrillshipStena IceMAX to drill the well, with an option for a follow-up well.
Subject to standard regulatory approvals and consents, the 53/6-A well will spud in June.
