Shell Brasil Petróleo and its partners have decided to move ahead with the Gato do Mato deepwater development in the presalt Santos Basin offshore Brazil.

Gato do Mato is a gas-condensate discovery with estimated resources of about 370 MMbbl. The structure extends across the BM-S-54 concession contract block, entered into in 2005, and the Sul de Gato do Mato Block, the production-sharing agreement for which was awarded in 2017.

Water depths vary from 1,750 m to 2,050 m.

The development plan calls for installation of an FPSO, designed to produce up to 120,000 bbl/d, with operations expected to begin in 2029.

Initially, the produced gas will be reinjected to provide reservoir pressure support. At a later point, some volumes may be exported for sale to onshore facilities.

The Gato do Mato consortium comprises Shell (operator, with a 50% stake), Ecopetrol (30%), TotalEnergies (20%) and Pré-Sal Petróleo (acting manager of the production sharing contract).
