Offshore West Africa conference opens in Abuja

The Offshore West Africa 2012 Conference and Exhibition opened on January 24 in Abuja, Nigeria.

ABUJA, Nigeria –The Offshore West Africa 2012 Conference and Exhibition opened on January 24 in Abuja, Nigeria. The title of the event is “Deepwater Technologies for West Africa.”

Following a welcome and introduction by David Paganie, chief editor ofOffshore magazine, the opening plenary session was started by Dr. Sammy J. Ojigbo, general manager Operations, NNPC Oil Field Operations.

Following that, Engr. Francis Alabo Ogaree, general manager, International Venture Operations, Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., and chairman of the Offshore West Africa 2012 Advisory Board, made a presentation concerning the technical challenges of deepwater development and the status of the Nigerian regulatory environment.

During the opening ceremonies, Dr. Kingsley Ojoh, Corporate GSR and Business Executive Director, Total E&P Nigeria Ltd, received Total’s award for its Pazflor Project, one ofOffshore’s Top 5 Projects of 2011.

Other dignitaries on the dais at the Opening Plenary included Chief Franklin Dandison Nengia of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.

Subsequently, Total E&P Nigeria and Shell Nigeria Exploration & Production Co. Ltd. combined to present an operators’ perspective of business in West Africa.

The conference continues through Jan. 26.
