DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Petroleum reportedly has signed a new exploration and production sharing agreement with JX Nippon Oil & Gas covering gas exploration in offshore block A (pre-Khuff).
The block covers 6,173 sq km (2,383 sq mi) offshore northeast of Ras Laffan Industrial City. The work scope covers 30 years and begins with a five-year exploration timeframe which is to include 2D and 3D seismic data acquisition, processing, interpretation, and drilling. JX Nippon spending is expected to reach $100 million, initially.
This agreement follows the signing of block BC EPSA to CNOOC of China and the block D EPSA to Shell and Petrochina.
