CAPE TOWN, South Africa – South Africa’s national oil company PetroSA is teaming up with Sasol to explore an offshore block in the Orange basin.
The Technical Cooperation Permit represents the first cooperation in exploration between the two companies in 10 years.
Block 3A/4A, on South Africa’s western margin, covers a little-explored area of 19,066 sq km (7,361 sq mi), in water depths ranging from 100-500 m (328-1,640 ft). It is on trend with theIbhubesi gas field to the immediate north.
Both companies will hold 50% equity, with PetroSA operator of the permit. The program will include geochemical analysis, basin modeling, and seismic interpretation.
