OSLO, Norway–Norway’s Petroleum and Safety Authority (PSA) has been in contact with Eni Norge AS in regards to the power outage on the GoliatFPSO platform on Friday, Aug. 26.

Eni reported in a statement that it halted production and removed all non-essential personnel from the platform to Hammerfest by helicopter.

In addition, the operator said that power was restored a few hours later. It is unclear at the time of this writing if production has resumed, with the operator only stating that the platform had “normalized” when the power returned.

The PSA pointed out that a similar incident occurred on Goliat earlier this year in May.

Based on these incidents, the authority has issued a notification of order to Eni Norge.

The notification of order is as follows: Pursuant to the Framework Regulations, Section 69, with reference to the Management Regulations, Section 22 concerning the handling of nonconformities, we order Eni to identify and implement necessary measures following the incident of Aug. 27 2016 in order to achieve compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.

A plan for the work of identifying and implementing measures is to be presented to the PSA by Sept. 5, 2016

Once the investigation has been completed, Eni is to present a binding, time-delimited schedule with deadlines for implementing corrective measures following the incident and a description of any compensatory measures to be deployed until the non-conformity has been rectified.”
