BUCHAREST, Romania – Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development has offered OMV Petrom offshore block II in the eastern Black Sea, following an international tender.
A formal award for the exploration block, which covers a total area of 5,282 sq km (2,039 sq mi), will follow finalization of term for a production-sharing contract.
OMV Petrom is currently active in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea, with exploration, development, and production operations in the shallow-water Istria block, and exploration for gas in partnership with ExxonMobil in the deepwater Neptun Deep concession.
The facilities in Istria produce around 25,000 boe/d of oil and gas and last year accounted for around 17% of the company’s production in Romania.
