Extension granted for offshore South Africa environmental report

Africa Energy says the South African authorities have extended the deadline for submitting an environmental impact assessment report for offshore Block 11B/12B to May 19, 2025.

Africa Energy says the South African authorities have extended the deadline for submitting an environmental impact assessment report for offshore Block 11B/12B to May 19, 2025.

In late July, operator Total Energies and Qatar Energies followed CNR’s lead in announcing their planned withdrawal from the block, which contains the two deepwater gas-condensate discoveries Brulpadda and Luiperd.

This followed a lack of progressing on commercialization of the development, which initially had focused on a proposed early production system over Luiperd.

Africa Energy has a 10% interest in the block via its investment in Main Street 1549. While the company does not intend to withdraw, it is assessing the best way forward in respect to the environmental application process. Following the exits of the other partners, the company would hold 100% of the block.

Environmental authorization is needed for the approval of the production right application.
