HOUSTON -- Production from the Songkhla A oil field in the Gulf of Thailand has risen steadily this year, according to operator Coastal Energy.
Various remedial measures have restored output to the field’s full potential – it is currently averaging 8,500 b/d.
Development continues of the nearby Bua Ban field. Coastal completed installation of the production and processing facilities here in February. Last month, a drilling rig was mobilized to the Bua Ban platform, with the first well being spud in late May. Surface casing has now been set for the first five Bua Ban wells.
At the Benjarong field, the mobile offshore production unit has been installed, and testing should start shortly, with results expected by mid-July. A workover unit will be employed for this program to contain costs and allow development of Bua Ban to proceed during testing. Coastal expects further increases in offshore production as Bua Ban is developed.
