POOLE, UK -- BW Offshore has commissioned Hamworthy to supply pumps and associated kit for the Papa Terra oil field FPSO offshore Brazil.
The COSCO Dalian yard in China is converting the ULCC BW Nisa into the FPSO for delivery by late 2011. The completed vessel will include a cargo pump room system, firewater pump system, and sea water lift pumps, all provided by Hamworthy.
According to the company’s Pump Systems managing director Paul Fleetwood, Hamworthy has supplied various pump room systems with deck-mounted booster stations for FPSOs since 2002, starting with BW Offshore’s converted VLCC Berge Helene.
“This is the optimal solution for the client as standard marine cargo pumps can be used in the pump room for normal offshore offloading to shuttle tankers, and when higher pressures are required, i.e. when offloading via an offshore buoy, an extra set of specially designed booster pumps on deck are used to boost the pressure.”
The Papa Terra firewater pump package will comprise two mechanical hydraulic skids and one mechanical skid. Detailed system design will be performed by Hamworthy’s Baltic Design Centre in Poland, with the company’s newly expanded facility in Singapore handling manufacture and testing. This base will also manufacture the cargo offloading system and the four large pumps for the seawater lift package.
