CALGARY, Canada – Oil production from the newly onstream Athena field in the UK North Sea has reached 22,000 b/d.
Flow from each of the four oil production wells is supported by electrical submersible pumps. Water injection will be used to support reservoir pressure to sustain production rates.
An initial cargo of crude has been offloaded from the FPSOBW Athena to the shuttle tanker Betty Knutsen. All cargoes will be shipped to Ithaca’s oil terminal at Nigg, northeast Scotland, from where Athena crude will be sold to the market under the company’s contract with BP.
At current oil prices, Ithaca expects the project to achieve payback within 12 months.
