TOKYO– Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda. has extended its contract with MODEC for operations and maintenance of the FPSOFluminense from August 2016 to December 2020.
TheFPSO has been operating at the Bijupirá and Salema oil fields in the Campos basin offshore Brazil since August 2003.
Moored in water depths of about 740 m (2,428 ft), the FPSO is capable of processing 81,000 b/d of oil and 75 MMcf/d of gas and has a storage capacity of 1.3 MMbbl of crude oil.
MODEC converted an ultra large crude carrier into the FPSO and was responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, mobilization, installation, and commissioning of the unit, including topsides processing equipment as well as hull and marine systems.
SOFEC Inc. designed and provided the external turret and mooring system.
The FPSOFluminense was the first vessel the company has delivered to the Brazilian oil and gas industry. Nine FPSOs and one FSO have followed.
TheFPSOCidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29, the twelfth MODEC vessel for offshore Brazil is under construction. It is scheduled to be installed in 4Q 2017 at the Tartaruga Verde and Tartaruga Mestiça fields in the Campos basin.
