STAVANGER, Norway - A spokesperson for Norway's Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Stavanger confirmed to Offshore that a “minor fire” broke out on the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO, currently at work in the Knarr field in the Norwegian North Sea.
Output from the field was originally halted, but operations have returned to normal.
“There was smoke, with some possible flames,” the Centre’s spokesperson said. “There was no injury, no evacuation. The situation is normal now.”
Petrojarl Knarr is on a six-year time charter contract from Teekay for operator BG Group. Marking BG Group’s first floating vessel development in the North Sea, it produced first oil for the field last week. Built at Samsung Heavy Industries, it was delivered in 2014 with a production capacity of 63,000 b/d and a storage capacity of 800,000 b/d.
The Knarr field was discovered in 2008 and has estimated gross recoverable reserves of around 80 MMboe with a production life of at least 10 years. Exploration drilling is currently ongoing in the area, according to BG Group.
BG Group confirmed that the incident was under control and normalized. The company holds the operatorship and a 45% stake in Knarr. Its partners are Idemitsu Petroleum Norge (25%), Wintershall Norge (20%), and RWE DEA Norge AS (10 %).
