WINDSOR, UK— Centrica expects its subsidiary Spirit Energy to maintain gas production from the Morecambe Bay fields in the East Irish Sea until the end of this decade, the company said in a results statement.
Centrica’s Rough Field platform in the UK southern North Sea resumed gas storage in 2022. Earlier this year, the company announced it would increase storage capacity from 30 Bcf to 54 Bcf. It now has exclusive use of the asset through 2030.
In time, Rough could be repurposed to store up to 200 Bcf of hydrogen, the company added, and recently, Spirit secured a carbon capture license for Morecambe.
