LONDON – Malaysia could contribute about 12% (3.1 bcf/d) of global natural gas production in 2025 from offshore projects coming onstream between 2021 and 2025, according to GlobalData.
The ‘Global Offshore Upstream Development Outlook, 2021–2025’ predicts that 2 bcf/d of gas production in Malaysia in 2025 will come from projects with identified development plans, and 1 bcf/d from early-stage projects currently in the conceptual phase but likely to be approved for development.
Of the 19 natural gas projects that are expected to start operations in Malaysia during 2021-2025, Kasawari, Jerun, and B14 could collectively contribute about 50% of the gas produced in the country in 2025.
GlobalData sees Iran as the second highest country globally producing 2.7 bcf/d of natural gas in 2025 or around 11% of global gas production that year, followed by Qatar with 2.67 bcf/d from planned and announced offshore projects in 2025.
Global leaders are said to be Qatar Petroleum, National Iranian Oil Co., and Royal Dutch Shell with offshore production of 2.6 bcf/d, 2.4 bcf/d and 1.2 bcf/d respectively, in 2025.
