HONG KONGCNOOC has started production from the deepwater Lingshui 17-2 gas/condensate field in the South China Sea.

The location is in the northern sea of the Qiongdongnan basin, in a water depth of around 1,560 m (4,921 ft).

This was China’s first large-sized deepwater discovery, with proven gas resources of more than 100 bcm.

Development is based on a moored semisubmersible production platform with condensate oil storage capacity, connected to an 11-well subsea production system and a subsea pipeline.

CNOOC plans to reach peak production of 328 MMcf/d of gas and 6,751 b/d of condensate in 2022, followed by a 10-year stable production period.

The gas is connected to the national gas pipeline network through submarine pipelines, serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Hainan area.
