TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian Offshore Oil Co. (IOOC) is investigating a novel injection method to boost recovery from the Bilal oil field in the Persian Gulf.
According to news service Shana, the project, under review since mid-2015, involves injecting nanofluids as into the Surmeh reservoir, where water is currently injected.
Researchers have assessed a wide range of nanostructures (metal-carbon and hybrid oxides) and their stability in salinity, high temperatures, and reservoir conditions.
The results, and simulation of selected nanofluid injection both at field and single-well scale, suggested that adding nanoparticles to the currently injected water could significantly increase the recovery rate.
