Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Co. (SNEPCo) and its partners have taken FID on the deepwater Bonga North development offshore Nigeria.
This will be a subsea tieback to the Shell-operated Bonga FPSO in OML 118 where water depths exceed 1,000 m. The 225,000-bbl/d vessel started operations in 2025 and had produced 1 Bbbl of crude by 2023.
For Bonga North, Shell plans eight new producer and eight water injection wells; modifications to the Bonga Main FPSO; and new associated subsea facilities.
The company estimates recoverable reserves at Bonga North of more than 300 MMboe. At peak, these should produce 110,000 bbl/d of oil, with startup expected by the end of the decade.
Other partners in the Bonga field are Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria, Nigerian Agip Exploration, and TotalEnergies Exploration and Production Nigeria, on behalf of the Nigerian National Petroleum Co. (NNPC).
