TANANGER, Norway – ConocoPhillips Scandinavia has been trialling and developing various new technologies for the Greater Ekofisk Area in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
The goals are to support increased production and efficiency, cost reductions, and lower greenhouse emissions.
In 2019, the Norway Wells department tested over 20 new technologies, and more than double that figure in 2020.
Examples include glass plugs that reduce the need for wireline in well stimulation operations, and offline stimulation, in which the intervention vessel is connected directly to the x-mas tree at the seabed to avoid connecting to an intermediary vessel.
Another development is a robot that can inspect platform legs in the splash zone.
Now the company has committed to a new project to cut emissions from by producing all gas instead of flaring it.
