Saipem gets approvals for subsea hydrogen pipelines assessment method
Aug. 9, 2024
RINA has awarded Saipem certifications for the performance qualification methodology of materials used in assembling subsea pipelines for transporting gaseous hydrogen.
Classification society RINA has awarded Saipem two certifications for the performance qualification methodology of materials used in assembling subsea pipelines for transporting gaseous hydrogen.
Delivering hydrogen through converted or newly built pipelines carries the risk of weakening materials. Saipem has therefore developed a protocol to assess the performance of the metallic materials and the relative welds to the passage of the hydrogen.
This allows the company to determine the compatibility of the pipelines during both the planning and operational phases.
RINA issued approval in principle and the technology qualification, opening the way for further qualification processes and scalable methodology.
