Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG (TAP) has commissioned Penspen to perform hydrogen gap analysis services for the 877-km TAP natural gas pipeline in southern Europe.
Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG (TAP) has commissioned Penspen to perform hydrogen gap analysis services for the 877-km TAP natural gas pipeline in southern Europe.
Penspen’s UK team is conducting a desktop and field assessment review of TAP’s aboveground installations, block valves and compressor stations. The pipeline system owners aim to investigate the feasibility of introducing hydrogen blends to the existing gas line, potentially expanding its capacity while also supporting decarbonization of the region.
TAP, which connects to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Greek-Turkish border, traverses Albania and the Adriatic Sea, connecting to the gas network in southern Italy.
The pipeline, which started operations at the end of 2020, is part of the Southern Gas Corridor. It was constructed to strengthen Europe’s energy security and supply diversification.
