HOUSTON – Oil production from East Belumut field on PM 323 offshore Malaysia has resumed, reports Newfield Exploration Co. With repair of the damaged export pipeline, production is back to 20,000 b/d.
The field was offline for four weeks when a pipeline connecting the East Belumut platform to the Tinggi platform 17 mi (27 km) distant was damaged by marine vessels unrelated to field operations.
"Our Malaysian team did a fantastic job of identifying the damaged line, minimizing the impact on the environment and quickly returning the line to service," said Lee K. Boothby, Newfield chairman, president, and CEO.
East Belumut is 160 mi off Malaysia in 240 ft (73 m) of water. Newfield is the operator with a 60% interest.
