ABU DHABI, UAE – Valentine Maritime (Gulf) has completed a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liner installation through a 24-in. pipeline offshore Qatar.
The contractor said this was the longest subsea HDPE segment pulled through apipeline in one single pull for client OXY Qatar. The pipe length was 2.5 km (1.56 mi) with a diameter of 590 mm and 15 mm wall thickness. Water depth was up to 20 m (66 ft).
The operation allowed the operator to save the cost of an expensive exotic material (Inconel) overlay/lining of the pipeline, used for produced water disposal. Work was completed in August.
