ZUG, Switzerland – A team on the laybarge Fortuna has completed an above-water tie-in of sections of the second Nord Stream 2 pipeline laid from the German shore and Danish waters.

The opposing pipe strings were lifted from the seafloor with both pipe ends then cut and fitted together.

Welding to connect the two lines took place on a special platform located above the water on the side of the vessel. The connected pipeline was then lowered to the seabed as one continuous string.

Following pre-commissioning Nord Stream AG aims to have the pipeline operating before the end of this year.
