Eni announced today a new oil discovery from the Allegheny South exploration well 260 km south of New Orleans in Green Canyon block 298 in deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The company drilled Allegheny South to 4,870 m TD in 1,000 m of water.

The estimated new reserves discovered are 20 MMboe.

Eni has a 100% working interest and is the operator.

The positive well results and the proximity to the Allegheny field will make production start-up possible in 2005.

Eni's current production in the US GoM is 42,000 boe.
