OSLO, Norway  TGS has issued summaries of its current offshore seismic data acquisition projects in a results update.

Its largest multiclient projects are the Engagement Phase 4 ocean-bottom node (OBN) survey in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM), Santos Sul and Foz de Amazonas Phase 2 in Brazil, and the Heimdal Terrace and Sleipner OBN surveys in the Norwegian North Sea.

Other OBN programs during the second quarter kept two ZXPLR crews active in Guyana and the US GoM. The Z700 crew continued its work in Norway while the MASS crew started a new contract in the region after mobilizing from Malaysia.

Looking ahead, renewable energy growth will not compensate for declining hydrocarbon production to address growing energy needs, the company said. So substantial additional oil and gas resources will be needed over the coming decades.

Various IOCs have recently scaled down their ambitions in renewable energy, TGS added, and E&P companies are continuing to increase exploration spending and securing capacity for the near term.

The company’s key clients have been more focused in the first half of 2023 on spending in drilling, new proprietary and multiclient seismic surveys, and fulfilling their work programs, with reduced spending on purchases of vintage data.
