Baker Hughes, ExxonMobil Guyana ink FPSO chemicals contract

At its 25th annual meeting earlier this month in Florence, Italy, Baker Hughes secured a new multi-year contract from ExxonMobil Guyana to provide specialty chemicals and associated services for the Uaru and Whiptail developments in the offshore Stabroek Block.

The award includes all topsides, subsea, water injection and utility chemicals for the Errea Wittu and Jaguar FPSOs, both presently under construction, and set to start production in 2026 and 2027.

Baker Hughes has developed supply chains locally in Guyana to source the chemicals needed for these projects, which will feature up to 20 drill centers and 92 production and injection wells. Each FPSO will have a capacity of 250,000 bbl/d.

ExxonMobil takes ownership of offshore Guyana FPSO

Late last year, ExxonMobil Guyana completed its acquisition of the Liza Destiny FPSO from SBM Offshore, five years ahead of the maximum lease term that would have expired in December 2029.

Under the arrangement, announced Dec. 19, SBM Offshore will continue to operate and maintain the FPSO up to 2033.

SBM plans to use much of the $535 million proceeds to repay project financing and lower its net debt position.

Liza Destiny has been on hire at the Liza field offshore Guyana since December 2019.

This time last year, Aize, ExxonMobil Guyana and SBM Offshore jointly used Aize digital twin software on the Liza Unity and Liza Destiny FPSOs on the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.
