LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands  Fugro will conduct a hydrographic survey under contract to the Norwegian Hydrographic Service for the 2023 MAREANO seabed mapping program.

MAREANO, supported by the Norwegian government, maps the seafloor offshore Norway to provide scientific information for management and preservation of the country’s marine resources. Fugro has participated in the program since 2006, to date acquiring more than 142,000 sq km of data.

This summer survey will cover a region spanning 2,887 sq km in the North Sea, where water depths range from 140 m to 335 m. The resulting datasets will integrate bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data to improve understanding of the local environment to support development of emerging industries, such as offshore wind and offshore aquaculture, and to help protect ecologically sensitive areas.

Fugro’s survey vessel, equipped with high-resolution, high-density multibeam echo sounders and sub-bottom data acquisition systems, will obtain marine geodata between July and late August, with progress accessible via the company’s VirGeo web-based geodata engagement platform.
