OSLO, Norway ā€“ TGS has committed to the Amendment Phase II ultra-long offset ocean-bottom node (OBN) survey in the US Gulf of Mexico, building on the first phase acquired to the east in 2018.

Magseis Fairfield will start acquiring the 151 OCS block survey on TGSā€™ behalf in December, with acquisition due be completed during Q1, 2023.

TGS expects the data to provide uplift to its full-waveform inversion (FWI) velocity model building, and following processing, plans to issue the results late in 2023.

On completion, the company will have compiled a library of over 550 OCS blocks of ultra-long off-set data in the GoM.

CEO Kristian Johansen said: ā€œFollowing the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act, there is a clear roadmap for future license rounds and increased activity in the Gulf of Mexico. As a result, TGS feels this is an ideal time to continue investing in ultra-long offset node data to support industry needs in this highly prospective area.ā€
