SOUTH PERTH, Australia – Searcher will acquire new seismic surveys and reprocess legacy data offshore and onshore Oman, under a new partnership with the country’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM).

Reprocessing of the offshore legacy data in the Sea of Oman has started with application of a modern broadband processing sequence with multiple removal technologies.

According to Searcher, improving the imaging of the offshore geology should resolve uncertainties concerning the thrusts and fold belt plays, also shedding light on the stratigraphy below the decollement surface.

Results suggest oil prospectivity with significant resource potential. Searcher expects to reprocess the entire 2D and 3D dataset with MEM, in addition to acquiring new 2D and 3D seismic in 2022/23.

The offshore Oman 2D and 3D rectification project comprises 32,000 km (19,884 mi) of 2D and 2,500 sq km (965 sq mi) of 3D legacy data which has been rectified using post-stack reprocessing to address issues with navigation, metadata, amplitude, phase and time-shifts.
