OSLO, Norway – PGS’ part-owned subsidiary Ocean Floor Geophysics (OFG) has acquired NCS SubSea, owner and operator of the P-Cable system, a technology that is said to provide high-resolution 3D seismic data.
The system’s main component is a cross-cable towed perpendicular to the sailing direction of the vessel and spanned by two paravanes, typically 150-300 m (492-984 ft) apart.
It provides power and communication to numerous closely-spaced, short offset streamers, typically connected to take-outs at either 6.25- or 12.5-m (20.5/41-ft) intervals along the cross-cable. Group spacing of the active sections ranges from 1.5625-6.25 m (5.2-20.5 m) with a group length of 1.4 m (4.6 ft).
NCS SubSea and P-Cable 3D Seismic AS say they have deployed the technology for more than a decade in over 85 surveys, delivering over 3,600 sq km (1,390 sq mi) of high-resolution 3D seismic data. Using the P-Cable technology, PGS says that it can expand its offering for site characterization and shallow geohazard applications.
