LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands Fugro is performing a seep survey and geochemical data-gathering for Petronas in block 48 offshore Suriname.

The crew onboard the survey vessel Fugro Brasilis is conducting the campaign which involves geophysical data collection, heat flow measurements, core sampling and onboard geochemical analyses. The aim is to assist planning for future exploration in this frontier area.

Field work will continue through March, and Fugro expects to deliver the geochemical analyses and final reports in May.

Over the past decade, the company has undertaken seep studies over a total area of more than 3 million sq km of (1.158 million sq mi) seep studies, managing all screening geochemical analyses at sea and sharing the data in near-real time with shore-based clients.

Fugro says that this approach supports swift identification of high-potential cores, with minimized impact on the marine environment. And the onboard analyses/remote data sharing also cuts travel and shipping requirements.
