ASKER, Norway – TGS has provided updates on its seismic survey activities offshore the Americas and western Europe.

During 3Q the company completed processing of the Para-Maranhao 2D survey off northern Brazil and the Colorado Basin 2D survey in northeast Argentina.

Processing continued of more than 50,000 sq km (19,305 sq mi) of 3D data across the Campos and Santos basins and Argentina’s Malvinas basin.

In a collaboration with Schlumberger, the company completed the recording phase of the Engagement ultra-long offset sparse node project in the Green Canyon protraction area of the US Gulf of Mexico.

All nodes have been recovered from the seabed and data is presently being downloaded, in readiness for processing. TGS also conducted a low frequency source test alongside the OBN survey.

Offshore Norway, acquisition of the 5,600-sq km (2,162-sq mi) Atlantic Margin 20 (AM20) 3D multi-client project finished in 3Q – this is an extension of Atlantic Margin seismic programs acquired between 2017 and 2019.

In addition, TGS and Polarcus performed tests involving sparse free-fall drop nodes for long offset and full azimuth FWI, and signal apparition for high-resolution imaging of deep-sea minerals.

Polarcus, in its 3Q statement, said the re-shaping of the marine seismic industry has left the offshore oil and gas industry with fewer acquisition contractors, but an improved structure.

Since the end of last year, four vessels have been removed from the global fleet, with 19 vessels active at the end of 3Q 2020.

However, with only 12 of these vessels booked for projects going into 4Q 2020, further supply-side discipline will be required, Polarcus said, to mitigate reduced demand.
