OSLO, Norway – TGS has acquired a sparse ocean bottom node (OBN) survey in the Atlantic Margin off mid-Norway, in collaboration with Polarcus.
According to the company, the initial study phase is intended mainly to provide proof of concept ahead of further survey proposals to assess the region’s hydrocarbon potential.
The OBN survey was conducted to coincide with the acquisition of the TGS AM20 seismic survey at the same location.
The main aims were to enhance efficiencies and combine the recorded OBN data with conventional 3D streamer data in order to improve imaging of sediments below complex volcanic deposits.
Rune Eng, executive vice president, International, said the company was looking to provide the oil and gas industry in northwest Europe with a cost-efficient OBN acquisition method that enhances geological understanding and refines velocity modeling.
TGS has been conducting similar surveys in the Gulf of Mexico, i.e. Amendment and Engagement.
Results from last year’s Amendment sparse node program have delivered imaging uplift and improved velocity accuracy, the company claimed, especially when combined with TGS’ proprietary Dynamic-Matching Full Wave Inversion technology.
