HOUSTON – ION Geophysical Corp. has secured its first 3D multi-client program in Mauritania in partnership with the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy.
Mauritania 3D is a multi-client reimaging program that initially covers about 24,000 sq km (9,266 sq mi) of the Mauritanian offshore coastal basin. The project will include legacy seismic surveys together with data from relinquished areas and all open file well logs.
The first phase will cover a number of past oil and gas discoveries including Chinguetti, Tiof C 4-6, Merou 1, and Banda C. The 3D dataset is comprised of multiple contiguous vintage surveys that will be consistently reimaged to create a continuous regional volume from field tapes to PSTM/PSDM.
The initial phase will combine up to 15 separate surveys and is expected to be completed in mid-2021.
The aim of the project is to boost exploration activity by providing a modern, high resolution/broad bandwidth 3D imaged dataset, the company said.
