OSLO, Norway – TGS, in partnership with PGS, has released final 3D seismic survey data results offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, ahead of the Canada Newfoundland Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board’s (C-NLOPB) announcement of parcels and the forthcoming licensing round.
The fully merged and migrated Tablelands and North Tablelands 3D datasets cover an area of 12,500 sq km (4,826 sq mi) in the eastern part of the offshore Orphan basin.
According to TGS, the uplift in image quality provided by the datasets will help E&P companies fully evaluate the acreage ahead of the scheduled licensing round.
The final full integrity data delineates key Cretaceous and Jurassic source rock intervals, with potential producing reservoirs from the Lower Cretaceous to the Lower Tertiary.
Tablelands and North Tablelands, along with the Long Range survey to the south, are said to reveal the play fairways of the Orphan basin, demonstrating numerous horsts, grabens, and multiple prospective traps.
All necessary petroleum system elements in the basin and discoveries to the east are identified on the broadband GeoStreamer data.
TGS/PGS, have been acquiring 2D and 3D GeoStreamer multi-client data off Newfoundland and Labrador since 2011.
The data outlines play fairways across the Labrador Sea, Orphan, Flemish Pass, and Jeanne d’Arc basins and others in the Grand Banks region.
