CONSTANŢA, Romania – GSP Offshore was due to start offshore activities last month for Phase III of the North Marmara natural gas storage extension project offshore Turkey.
Turkish gas distributor BOTAS appointed the joint venture between Rönesans Endüstri Tesisleri İnşaatSanayi Ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi and Renaissance Heavy Industries to manage the third-phase program.
TheGSP Saturn jackup was transported from Constanţa to Tekirdag Port, passing through the Bosphorus strait.
GSP, as main subcontractor for the offshore operations, will supervise all activities related to construction of two fixed offshore platforms.
The company’sBigfoot 1 pipelay barge and Neptun heavy lift crane will perform installation of the platforms, two 28-in. pipelines of 2.1 and 3.3 km (1.3 and 2 mi) length, and cables.
In addition, GSP will drill 20 wells (18 subsea storage and two ‘search’ wells) at the two pre-installed platforms usingGSP Saturn and GSP Jupiter, the GSP Well Servicer and various platform supply vessels.
Work will be performed in Silivri, Istanbul, over three years.
The program should increase overall storage capacity from the present 2.84 bcm to 4.3 bcm.
