Aker starts conceptual studies on Statoil discoveries

Statoil (OSE:STL;NYSE:STO) has awarded Aker Solutions (Oslo Børs:AKSO) early-phase studies for two major development projects in the Norwegian sector.

STAVANGER, Norway–Statoil (OSE:STL;NYSE:STO) has awarded Aker Solutions (Oslo Børs:AKSO) early-phase studies for two major development projects in the Norwegian sector.
Aker Solutions will perform a concept study for theSkrugard and Havis fields in the Barents Sea. The two fields, which are 7 km (4.3 mi) apart, will be developed jointly.
According to Henning Østvig, senior VP of front end and technology in Aker Solutions, “the development in the Barents Sea really hits the core of our competence, with floating installations in a harsh and arctic environment.”
Work onSkrugard and Havis will be managed out of Oslo, with participation from Aker Solutions’ new engineering office in Tromsø, northern Norway. The work includes screening of the potential scope available to local suppliers in the northern regions for these and future development projects.
The company will also perform a feasibility and screening study for the giantJohan Sverdrup field development in the Norwegian North Sea.
