STAVANGER, Norway -- Sevan Marine has selected Polarbase in Hammerfest as its shore base for the Goliat field in the Norwegian Sea.
Polarbase is in Rypefjord in Hammerfest, and serves as the main hub for the oil and gas related activities in the Barents Sea region. Companies including StatoilHydro, Transocean, and Halliburton use this location as a base.
Sevan Marine's selection of Hammerfest is part of its strategy in its bid for the FPSO contract for the Goliat field. The company is concluding a comprehensive study for the use of its cylindrical FPSO on the field.
The contract for the FPSO is expected to be awarded in the fourth quarter of this year. Sevan Marine is one of two contenders vying for the contract.
