LONDON – Independent Oil and Gas has awarded the Phase 1 well management contract for its Core Project gas development in the UK southern North Sea to Petrofac.

It follows the recent approval by the UK’s Oil and Gas Authority for the Phase 1 development plan.

Petrofac will manage the five-well program on the Blythe, Elgood and Southwark fields, with the work scope covering planning, execution, and the close-out phases.

The company will serve as well operator on behalf of IOG, a role it has performed for nine other oil companies in the UK North Sea.

Planning includes detailed well design, risk assessment and management of well-related regulatory requirements. During execution, Petrofac will manage well engineering, procurement and logistics; ensure well construction and integrity; and provide offshore and onshore personnel to support drilling.

Gas from the five Phase 1 wells will head to the Norfolk coast though the Thames Pipeline.

IOG and Petrofac teams had already been collaborating under a letter of limited commitment, so that all preparations for the 2021-22 Phase 1 drilling campaign could proceed as planned.
